I’m still just practicing here and figuring this out so this is yet another practice post… but I will take this opportunity to warn you… there will be a page on here called “Ramblings”.  That page will be where I free write about whatever happens to be on my mind… and may not be photography related.

This blog is for me to keep all of my many fans (LOL) out there informed and up to date about the exciting life of Brandy but it is also meant for me to have a place to vent about the idiosyncrasies in life and the oddities I seem to so often observe around me on a daily basis.

I will be sharing them with you so that you too may enjoy the strange world in which we live but also so that I can release the thoughts from my brain to make way for new and different information that will hopefully be of more use and importance.

They may be funny, they may be sad, but rest assured they will always make you stop and think twice about your own experiences.

This is really just a test post to see where it might end up on my page… the joys of learning a new program with theme limitations… but really… I’m grateful b/c this is a good way to get my feet wet in the blog world!

Soup Bowl

This is mostly a practice post since it is my first however I thought it couldn’t hurt to put up some useful information in the process…

I’ve been searching for a long time to find a career path that makes me feel fulfilled… it has proved to be a daunting task given the number of things that I am interested in and the number of things I want to do in this lifetime.  I believe I am getting so close that I almost am blinded by the light at the end of the tunnel.  I have decided to use my photography skills in a philanthropic way therefore doing what I’m good at (and love) and giving back to this world that has so graciously allowed me to rent space for a while.  Although some of this is redundant to my “Who is Brandy?” section it is worth repeating to emphasize the subject of this first post.

I was recently attending a local fund-raising event for the Samaritan Center which  provides transitional housing for homeless families with dependent children.  Their 15th Annual Soup Bowl served soup at 14 business, 11 churches, 1 temple, and three schools plus 10 staffed locations for accepting donations.  The gourmet soups were handmade by over 60 donors each making 5 gallons of their soup of choice.  For the fourth year in a row, local potters created over 350 one-of-a-kind soup bowls and one soup tureen to be sold at the locations serving the soup on the day of the event.  Everything for this event was donated by local business and organization and all the proceeds went directly to the Samaritan Center.  On the day of the event each location served soup to the general public for an asking minimum donation of $5 per bowl of soup which also included donated bread and drinks.

I decided to stop by one of the locations in support and thought to bring my camera along.  First of all the soup I tasted was amazing!  Secondly, I was able to talk to others about their philanthropy and learn more about myself in the process.  I contacted a local gallery owner who I knew was working on documenting the event photographically and offered my work as a donation to his project.  He hopes to compile a book of the event for donation to further help the Samaritan Center with their fundraising.  I was excited to be a part of his efforts and am looking forward to working with him further on other philanthropic ventures!

There is much more to come of my endeavors but I thought I would give a taste of good things to look forward to reading about in my blog…

This is a feel good sight that I hope will inspire a few other people in this world to look around and maybe find someway they can give of themselves to those who are in need!
